Growth

Data centers are foundational pieces to Alabama's tech economy, and provide the critical infrastructure required to support our state's growing global footprint. This momentum and continued growth is, in part, due to the influx of international companies choosing Alabama for their relocation or expansion projects. To offer a quick snapshot of data center development in the state, Google invested $600 million in a data center in Jackson County; during that same year, Facebook announced its plans for a $750-million data center in Huntsville. DC Blox has since opened its flagship hub data center in Birmingham, while AUBix data center followed with its grand opening in Auburn.

Technology Education

Alabama has become an attractive environment for companies in the information technology industry. This can be attributed to a few key factors, including the state's convenient access to talent and its partnerships with higher education. Companies that have chosen Alabama for its relocation or expansion are offered access to workforce training, state-of-the-art technology and innovation at leading engineering and research universities and colleges in the state. Alabama is home to 14 educational institutions that offer a four-year degree in information technology, while two-year technology degrees are offered by 22 public institutions in Alabama.
