Metal & Advanced Materials
Primary Metal Production
Alabama is a state that's as rich in minerals as it is in history. Abundant deposits of iron ore, coal and limestone in the 1900s forged Birmingham into the state's largest city and helped dub it the "Magic City." Raking as the 2nd most concentrated state in the Primary Metals Manufacturing industry, a wealth of metal manufacturing takes place in Alabama, making it home to some of the biggest names in steel, pipes, specialty metals and composites.

Fabricating the Future
The future of metals is already here. Alabama is leading the way in the production of advanced materials including titanium, carbon composites and more. Alabama already boasts Toray and Hexcel, two of the world's largest producers of carbon fiber. The aerospace industry looks to Carpenter Technologies and their ultra-modern plant in northern Alabama for titanium and specialty alloys. And GE Aviation is 3-D printing fuel nozzles for jet engines in Auburn (2021) and producing ultra-lightweight materials in Huntsville that are the future of aviation (2018).
Sustainable Supply Chains
Alabama Power works closely with metal-producing companies throughout the state to help shorten supply chains, improve reliability and create a more sustainable future for the industry. We've recently worked with U.S. Steel and AM/NS Calvert to help them construct new electric arc furnaces at their facilities in Mobile and Birmingham. Now it's your turn. Our team looks forward to providing clean, safe and reliable energy solutions to power the future of your operations and the future of our state.
