Innovation Depot is the expression of Birmingham’s dedication to advance technology, entrepreneurship and promising startup firms in the region. Built in 2007, the 145,00-square-foot facility was designed to house up to 75 business and create enough space for 500 employees. By 2011, after expansion in space and growth in head count, Innovation Depot’s economic impact was estimated at more than $1 billion.
Named for its proximity to Birmingham’s Railroad Reservation, Innovation Depot – an incubator of industrial development – gives entrepreneurs a competitive advantage in attracting customers, talent, mentors and funding to grow their business. Discovery BioMed was one such enterprise. As a 2011 graduate of Innovation Depot, the cell-based drug discovery and development firm moved to its own offices as a thriving business that Innovation Depot helped incubate to maturity.
